Branson's
Original Attraction was Fired up by a Best Seller Book by Harold Bell Wright
which is, naturally, entitled "The Shepherd of the Hills." The
book, published in 1907, soon launched an explosion in tourism for folks who
were eager to
see the area and places that Wright described.
In 1925, a wealthy banker's daughter from Springfield, MO, Elizabeth McDaniel (a.k.a. Miss Lizzie) purchased the park because of her love for the book. "Miss Lizzie" actually moved to Old Matt's Cabin (the homestead the show features) and began the first reenactments of the story on the cabin's lawn.
Today,
the tradition continues with the enthusiasm it has had for over 75 years!
By day, you will enjoy a fun and relaxing afternoon as you take a guided
historical tour of the homestead. You will get the inside secrets behind
the scenes of the show, ride in a Clydesdale-drawn wagon, stroll through gift
and craft shops, journey to the top of the Inspiration tower, and so much more!
Once you have
completed this fun-filled journey, we are sure you tummies will be
rumbling. Shepherd of the Hills will provide you with a meal that will
make your mouth beg for more! Dinner is served near Old Matt's Cabin
before the show.

After you have satisfied your appetites, you will then make your way to the Show. It takes 30 horses, 5 Mules, a donkey, a flock of sheep, an antique car, several buggies and wagons, 30 pistols and shotguns, 90 actors and actresses on a set the size of a football field to bring to life America's most famous drama. There's a fight, a fire, a shootout, a hoe down. It's a mystery, a love story, a drama. There's loads of comedy and great music. And that is just the beginning!
We are sure you will have the time of your life at The Shepherd of the Hills. Make your Reservations Now!! Seating is limited.
